Yesterday was our weekly sanctioned tourny and we ran an Epic this week. We had 8 people show up. I decided to run my Behold Hextor band as it hadn't lost yet so I figured I'd try my luck with it again. My band is:

Beholder x 3

Aspect of Hextor x 2 (non-epic)

Dark Naga

Human Blackguard

Wolf Skeleton

Map: Tomb of Queen Perigne

First round I got paired up with Troy. Troy was running an Epic Justicator, Epic Aspect of Moradin, Justice Archon, Warforged Scout, Warforged Bodyguard, Eberk, Dwarf Artificer, and Aramil on Teleport Temple. Rolled for map and he won so we were on the Teleports. I won side and set up in the room closest to all the teleports, putting him and his slow speed so that he could only reach one the first round. First turn I managed to get both Aspects and my wolf skeleton on teleports and had my beholders to where they could easily get to a teleport and then eye ray something next round. Second round I bring up both Aspects to him and then flood in the Beholders to start with the eye rays. He lands some good shots on the Aspects but I bring up my Blackguard before he checks. Next round it's more melee with me getting some good shots in with the Beholders eye rays and turning the Justice Archon to stone. I started getting hot on some rolls with my eye rays and managed to take out the Justicator. He got rid of both Aspects and 1 Beholder but they'd done their damage to everything else and I was able to finish off Moradin before it was over.

Second round I got paired with Tony. Tony's ranked #1 in the state in constructed but hasn't played alot lately due to a hectic work schedule. He brought a Drizzt, Epic Guen, Epic Rikka, Rask, Aramil, Lidda, Eberk, and maybe one more piece that escapes me on King's Road. I win map init and easily choose mine rather than try to eye ray through the trees. We spend a few rounds dancing around and he waylays in Rikka. I get some damage on her and then roll a lucky disentegrate on her and get her down on some hit points. He brings the rest of the crew over and it's time to party. I got both Aspects onto Drizzt and managed to get him down to 30 hps, but either missed my attacks on him or missed due to conceal. Drizzt and Rask tag teamed the Aspects and managed to kill both of them. The 3 Beholders were busy with Rikka and he'd brought Guen over. Here's where the game changed. When he placed Guen, it was 1 square off of Drizzt's commander effect. He didn't realize it until after he'd done it. I got a few rolls on Guen and managed to roll for a flesh to stone. With her outside of Drizzt's help, I tried it and Guen rolled 1 off and was a statue. After that I was able to finish off Rikka and get a good point lead. Time was called on us and I won on points being up by about 120 or so. Great game and had he not placed Guen 1 square off it would have been completely different.

Final round was against Kenwig. Ken's a good player and brought out a Dual Epic Aspect of Moradin, Dwarf Artificer, Dwarf Wizard, Man at Arms, and 3 Timber Wolves army on Tomb of Queen Perigne. Having 2 Epic AOM's I knew It'd be tough to get through all those hit points. We spent a few rounds dancing around trying to get the other to engage. I killed and routed a wolf or two and got off an eye ray onto the Man at Arms, giving me a slight activation advantage. Next round I used that to try to get him to come to me and when he didn't I went to him and hoped for initiave. I got the init and wasn't able to hit the AOM's with my Aspects. Add to that that I was rolling low for my eye rays and that when I did roll well the AOM's had a save of +15, it didn't go well after we engaged. I did manage to roll some disentegrates on him, but rolling at least 7 slides really hurt. Had I rolled a 5 on those though that still wouldnt' have helped alot though as I don't think it would have killed either of the Aspects. In the end Kenwig killed off my entire army and won.

I finished 2-1 and came in 3rd due to tie breakers. We opened 2 boosters for prizes and they were both Arcane Ballistas. Not a bad day though as I did roll 11 Disentegrates and did turn 3 or 4 pieces to stone. I also am about to get my 5th Beholder so I plan on running Quint Beholders next time that Epic comes around.
